Trash, Garbage or Rubbish???

Pessoal, depois de quase um mês, recomeço a postar.

Lembrei de um assunto que sempre me interessou desde que cheguei em Perth. Aliás, em um dos meus primeiros posts falei sobre isso. O LIXO!!!

Primeiro uma curiosidade, pra quem ainda não sabe.... Os australianos não falam TRASH de jeito nenhum, usa-se rubbish ou garbage. Trash é “coisa” de americanos e não de “ingleses”...

Mas voltando a questão LIXO, no bom português: toda segunda-feira à noite, coloco a minha BIN (latão de lixo)  no pequeno gramadinho em frente à nossa “vila”. Ela deve se juntar a outras bins , ficando enfileiradas.  São retiradas pelo caminhão de lixo sempre às terças-feiras pela manhã, a partir das 7 AM.

Tudo bem até aí, mas vale ressaltar novamente que,  diferente do Brasil, essa operação de recolher o lixo nos bairros resume-se ao caminhão e seu motorista, que para ao lado das bins  e com uma “garra” em cima do caminhão,  pinça as latas (são todas padronizadas) e despeja o lixo numa caçamba especial, uma a uma.

Acho que o motorista deve ter uma super habilidade e paciência! Tão diferente do Brasil, onde temos aquele monte de homenzinhos correndo atrás do caminhão e do lixo, fazendo um esforço brutal e com luvas para proteção todas sujas. 

O cara daqui nem sai do caminhão!!

Ah, e aqui - falo do meu bairro especificamente – Scarborough,   o lixo não precisa ser selecionado em casa. Depois de coletado ele vai para um local onde é separado para fins de reciclagem. 

Em outros locais já existe a coleta seletiva, que deve simplificar bastante.

Gosto tanto dessa forma de coleta daqui que um dia parei o carro pra fotografar. Confiram vocês mesmos!

Hi fellows!! After sometime, I’m posting again and bringing up a subject that I always wanted to talk about – the RUBBISH.

Buf before that, let me explain something for those who still don’t know: the Australians don’t like to say TRASH. They say rubbish or garbage, but “never” trash. Isn’t that curious? These are ENGLISH “things”!

OK, but let’s focus on the subject... Every Monday night, I move my rubbish bin to the verge, close to the group of units I live in. They are supposed to be lined up to be collected on Tuesday mornings.

This simple work is amazing for us, Brazilian people. I’ll tell you why...

In Brazil, we have at least 3 workers running after a truck, picking up the rubbish plastic bags (all different sizes) and what else people leave near their houses,  and throwing all the mixed stuff (now they started recycling) inside the vehicle to be smashed all together.  The poor workers get really tired, dirty (although they use safety gloves) and have to tolerate that horrible smell.

Here in Perth, this process of picking up the rubbish in the neighbourhoods needs only the truck and its driver, who stops next to the bins and with a kind of  "claw",  pinches the bins (they're all standardized) and dumps the garbage inside the vehicle’s dumpster.

Specifically in my neighbourhood – Scarborough-  this collected rubbish is taken to a place to be separated and then recycled. But there is also the selective collection, which is usual in other neighbourhoods and much easier for the workers, in my opinion.
